The Vinski Bunch jazz band

The band was formed in 2022 after the compositions were finalised. I have known most of the musicians for a long time and we have done the ”Sunday Game” CD together. As all of the musicians are top-notch artists and have dozens of projects all the time, it was really difficult to find common time for rehearsals and recording in 2022. We decided to combine the rehearsal and recording dates and that could only be arranged at the end of March 2023, as everyone in the band is a sought-after professional of his own trade.

Veli-Matti Kimanen learned to play guitar by ear and played in a rock band already in the 70’s. The 3-chord-world of rock soon bored him and he switched to prog rock and jazz, formed a band and became a self-taught composer combining odd melodies and rhythms with classical and jazz harmonies. He loves all kinds of good music, be it classical, modern, jazz, latin, funk or other. He has composed instrumental music mostly for jazz and jazz-fusion bands, classical guitar and piano. He has taken some short courses in music theory, harmony and arranging at the Sibelius Academy. Vinski Bunch’s ”Style of Style” is the 4th CD containing his works for a jazz/fusion band.

”Music is all the time in my head. Would be nice to get at least 1 per cent of the best ideas written down.”
